Due the increasing number of children suffering from serious illnesses in Chile and in Latin America, and to the lack of financial resources to be treated with this new kind of medicine, Fundación Genómika was founded with the mission of fostering the donation of umbilical cords of newborn stem cells in order to save lives. Founded by Farmacéutica Recalcine's owners, Fundación Genómika is aimed at encouraging mothers-to-be in Chile and Latin America to donate their children's umbilical cords so that other lives can be saved. This initiative demonstrates the Corporation's social commitment and responsibility in helping the large number of children suffering from painful illnesses who lack the financial resources for treatment. For Alejandro Weinstein, Corporación Farmacéutica Recalcine CEO, the "New Science and Ethics" concept thoroughly describes Genómika's contribution to the community. "We are facing a new science or advanced knowledge and ethics that widens the possibilities for treating underprivileged children with serious health conditions". The Foundation, along with medical professionals in Chile and overseas, will encourage stem cell-based research into children's illnesses and as a result, agreements with various research centers will be entered into. Genomika's main contributions to society will be: help underprivileged children who need stem cells to treat their serious illnesses; make progress in national and international medical research in the field of advanced knowledge and strength CFR's global market position. So, the best way to become involved with the Foundation is by spreading the word: "donating new life gives life" and thus publicize the need for umbilical cord donation.
